What gets listed

Company entries need evidence of AI or machine-learning work and a documented connection to Baltimore or its surrounding region. We distinguish Baltimore City headquarters, offices in surrounding counties, regional operations, and clearly labeled Baltimore-founded businesses that have been acquired. A remote employee or an accelerator appearance alone does not establish a local headquarters.

Resources include research labs, universities, founder programs, training, and community organizers. Some serve all of Maryland or are open only to specific participants. Each listing explains its scope.

How research works

We use AI-assisted research and writing, with links to the underlying evidence. We prioritize company and institution websites, government records, organizer event pages, and original announcements. Company-maintained profiles and job postings can support a regional connection, but their limitations are stated. Secondary reporting helps identify leads; our own directory is never evidence for a company claim.

Product descriptions are attributed accounts, not independent performance tests. We do not infer clinical effectiveness, regulatory approval, funding totals, headcount, or a specific AI mechanism from a broad marketing claim. Unsupported details are omitted.

What a review date means

A sources-checked date records when the cited information was examined. It is not a guarantee that every fact remains unchanged, a company endorsement, or verification by the company itself. Source publication dates, source update dates, and our review dates are distinct. When a source gives only a year, we preserve that precision.

Guides show their publication and modification information in structured data, and their research date on the page. Scheduled events and deadlines are identified as such. A past event announcement is not proof that the event took place.

Company-managed listings

Companies can claim and edit their listings through the claim process. Editorial content imports preserve company-managed records. Claimed status confirms control through that process; it is not a certification of product quality.

Corrections and exclusions

If a company’s AI work or local connection cannot be supported, we can hide its listing pending better evidence. That means evidence is missing, not that the company has closed or has no AI work. We preserve existing records and ownership relationships rather than deleting them during a content refresh.

Send a correction or removal request, ideally with a current primary source. The directory is a curated selection, not an exhaustive count or a ranking.

Commercial independence

The September 2026 research release contains no paid rankings. Any future sponsored coverage or paid placement must be visibly disclosed. Inclusion does not endorse a vendor or promise its services are suitable for a particular use.
